What this tool does
The Icebreaker Question Generator draws from seventy curated conversation starters - a general set for teens and adults, and a kids set for younger groups. Every question is family-friendly, positive, and answerable by anyone without embarrassment.
How the randomness works
Questions are drawn fairly from the chosen set, without repeats within a single draw. Pair it with the Random Name Picker: draw a question, then draw who answers first.
We curate these by hand with a simple test: would this question work at a dinner table with three generations present? Nothing prying, nothing divisive, nothing that puts anyone on the spot.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I add my own questions?
- This tool uses our curated sets. For your own question bank, paste your questions into the Custom List Picker - it does exactly the same fair draw from any list you provide.
- Are the questions appropriate for church and school groups?
- Yes - every question passes a three-generations-at-dinner test. Nothing personal, romantic, political, or embarrassing.
- What is the difference between the two sets?
- The kids set uses simpler words and more imagination (superpowers, talking fish). The general set leans on memories, preferences, and gentle reflection. Both work for mixed groups.
