What this tool does

The Halloween Costume Idea Picker draws from 156 curated, family-friendly ideas: 72 solo looks, 48 ready-made duos, and 36 group sets, each split into classic, funny, and kids tones. We skip licensed characters so a classroom or church night can use the result without hunting for a store-bought logo.

How the randomness works

Ideas are drawn fairly from the chosen size and tone, without repeats within a single draw. A three-idea draw from a twenty-four-idea solo set is one of 12,144 equally likely ordered lists. Duo sets have 16 ideas (3,360 three-idea lists) and group sets have 12 (1,320). The live counter always shows the exact number for your settings.

We curate these by hand with a simple test: would this costume work at a church Trunk or Treat, a school parade, and a family dinner on the same night? Nothing scary, nothing licensed, nothing that needs a brand-name outfit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pick a movie or comic-book character?
Not from this list. We keep ideas generic on purpose so nobody needs a licensed costume. Paste your own character names into the Custom List Picker if your group already has permission and a plan.
Are these appropriate for church and school?
Yes. Every idea is meant for family Halloween: church Trunk or Treat, classroom parades, and living-room parties. No gore, no scary makeup, no outfits that put anyone on the spot.
What if our group is larger than the set describes?
Group ideas name a typical headcount so you can see the shape. Extra people can repeat a role (more planets, more crayons) or you can draw a second idea and mix the two.
Can I save a shortlist?
Draw up to five ideas at once, then use Copy Link to keep them. Generate again for a fresh set from the same size and tone.
